The coordination of safety and health in construction: a key added value for effective prevention 

PRESENTATION

After the interest generated by the 1st Conference held in Barcelona in February 2008, the Association of Technical Architects and Building Engineers of Madrid, the Association of Civil Engineers of Spain and the European Network FOCUS, committed to Health and Safety in Construction in general and in Health and Safety Coordination in particular, have taken the initiative to organize the 2nd European Conference on Health and Safety Coordination in the Construction Industry to be held the 5 and 6 of April 2011 in Madrid - Spain. The Regional Institute of Occupational Safety and Health at Work, of the Regional Government of Madrid, has joined the initiative.

The content of the Conference program has been established based on the European and Spanish strategies in health and safety at work, the conclusions of the 1st Conference and the European Commission Communication COM (2008) 698 final on the practical application of the Directives 92/57/EEC (health and safety on temporary or mobile sites) and 92/58/EEC (safety and health signs at work), which made the point, among other aspects, to: the need for greater involvement of the client in the prevention of occupational hazards at work, the importance of health and safety coordination from the first steps of the project, the suitability of the independence of the coordination from designers and site supervisors, and the need to establish a competence criteria (training and experience) for health and safety coordinators.

OBJECTIVE

To strength and improve health and safety coordination during the planning, design, execution and operation of constructions by means of a conference at European level organized with a professional and practical approach.

PROFESSIONAL AND GEOGRAPHICAL SCOPE

The conference is addressed to professionals and companies in architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) in the European Union, interested in health and safety coordination in construction.
